Governor announced today a sweeping $50 million infrastructure development plan that aims to modernize American Samoa's aging roads, utilities, and public facilities over the next five years.
The plan, unveiled at a press conference at the Fono building in Fagatogo, includes major upgrades to the territory's power grid, water distribution systems, and primary roadways connecting villages across Tutuila.
"This is the most significant investment in our territory's infrastructure in decades," the Governor said. "Our people deserve modern facilities that can withstand the challenges of our tropical climate and support economic growth."
Key components of the plan include:
- $15 million for road resurfacing and expansion
- $12 million for power grid modernization
- $10 million for water and wastewater improvements
- $8 million for public building renovations
- $5 million for emergency preparedness infrastructure
The funding will come from a combination of federal grants, territorial bonds, and partnerships with private sector entities. Construction is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.
