In a game that will be remembered for years to come, Tafuna High School's Warriors claimed their third consecutive territorial football championship with a thrilling 28-21 overtime victory over the Leone Lions at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The championship game lived up to its billing as the two best teams in American Samoa battled through four quarters of intense, physical football before heading to overtime tied at 21.
"Our boys showed incredible heart tonight," said Tafuna head coach. "Leone is a tremendous team, and to beat them in overtime shows the character of this group."
The Warriors' quarterback completed 18 of 27 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns, earning MVP honors for the game. His 15-yard touchdown pass in overtime sealed the victory for Tafuna.
A capacity crowd of over 3,000 fans packed the stadium, creating an electric atmosphere throughout the contest.
